Testing Indications
CJD testing is not available at Public Health Ontario Laboratory.

If you have a patient suspected of having CJD contact Public Health Ontario Laboratory Customer Service at 1-877-604-4567 prior to sending CSF samples for other testing (TB, Virus, Syphilis) to the laboratory
CSF from patients with suspected Creutzfeldt –Jakob Disease (CJD) must be:
- Collected in leak proof, puncture resistant primary container, and placed in a biohazard bag
- Packaged using the triple packaging system for transport to the appropriate laboratory section
- Labeled as “CJD” for laboratory processing, decontamination and disposal.
