Group B Streptococcal Disease, Neonatal (Group B strep)

Neonatal group B streptococcal disease is caused by the bacteria group B streptococcus (also known as Streptococcus agalactiae). It can sometimes be found in the genital tract of healthy woman and can be passed to the baby during childbirth. It can cause sepsis (blood poisoning), pneumonia and sometimes meningitis in newborn infants.
